Moritz Preisler Trio

Moritz Preisler Trio
  • Moritz Preisler (piano)
  • Jan Blikslager (bass)
  • Mathieu Clement (drums)

The trio around the Cologne pianist Moritz Preisler has been working together since 2017. The starting point is the compositions of the namesake, which are elaborated, processed and arranged in the collective. The band combines elements of jazz, improvised music, contemporary composed music as well as late romantic and modern classical music.

The result is an idiosyncratic, thrilling, surreal and bizarrely beautiful sound art that can only be captured if you hear it live at the moment of its creation.

The debut album “Raureif” is on the 22nd. February 2022 by Klaeng Records and was highly praised by the press.

“A very special poetry” (Martin Laurentius / Jazzthing)

“highly intelligent style, lightness and depth of this young trio.” This music experiments so filigreely with its historical substance, which it naturally has to face. Being in it and escaping at the same time is so hard. But it's amazing and wonderful. (Martin Hufner / nmz - new music newspaper)

Encounter of New Music, Free Improvisation and Modern Jazz. Abstract, Angular and yet strangely playful and lyrical. (Niklas Wandt / WDR 3 Jazz)

In their joint work since 2017, the three musicians have found a beautiful synthesis of blurring and conciseness. Another acoustic piano trio. This has its own approach, which carries over CD length in a beautiful dramaturgy. (Ulrich Steinmetzger / Jazzpodium)

“Original and stylistically versatile.” Thanks to the talent of the leader, this music receives a new, surreal and inspiring quality. (Jacek Brun/Jazz Fun)
