With Vincent Niessen on double bass and Pat Schiller-Beutler on drums, the pianist and composer Lucia Schiller brings her compositions to life.

The three musicians have known each other since their jazz studies in Dresden and are connected by a passion for traditional jazz and blues. Humbly in front of the roots of this music, they seek ways to create a living music and interaction, striving to revive its essence in their own language and form.

The body of the trio is characterised by the pianist’s affinity for the music of Mal Waldron, Paul Bley and Lennie Tristano. It is the depth, sometimes roughness and urgency that inspire them in their piano playing.

Her sound language and melodic motifs also show a connection to Ravel, Skrjabin and Bartók. For the trio, the joy of making music is in the foreground, so the pieces become the springboard for joint improvisation.
