Wanja Rosenthal Quartett

Wanja Rosenthal Quartett

The Viennese guitarist Wanja Rosenthal belongs to the new generation of up-and-coming jazz musicians who start with inventiveness and the will to surprise in music. While his focus is currently back in Vienna, Wanja spent a year studying in Cologne, where, among other things, a large part of the compositions for the debut release “LÜFPYRÜN” were created.

Inspired by role models such as Lage Lund and Mark Turner, the musical focus of the album, which was released in January 2024, lies in the current zeitgeist of Modern Creative, where jazz tradition is combined with innovative perspectives. Together with the three musicians Adrian Gallet, Daniel Oetz Salcines and Mathieu Clement living in Cologne, Wanja Rosenthal developed an acoustically oriented band sound that can call itself his own. There, vocal melodies meet fiery play, as a result of which Wanja’s compositions sound with a driving energy of a whole new face.

At the same time, the band character also shines in pieces of atmospheric form, where through a fine interplay each sound is given the necessary space to unfold in space. Creative interaction and enthusiasm for play are very important – so Wanja Rosenthal and his band can enjoy the versatile facets of the quartet line-up in depth.
