About the concert

Two brothers and a relative: with the trio “RENNER” an unusual constellation is imagined on this evening. The line-up of trombone bass drums is not often found inflationarily in jazz history. Moritz Renner, Nils Kugelmann and Valentin Renner make excellent use of the spaces that open up without a harmony instrument. The interaction of the three creates the perfect symbiosis between freedom and thorough precision. You can always hear how close the instrumentalists are.

The winners of this year’s Bavarian Jazz Association’s prize convince “with intelligent compositions, emotional and virtuosic playing and a warm-transparent sound”, which can be musically classified into the genre of modern jazz.

The drummer Valentin Renner is currently still studying at the Jazzcampus Basel under Jeff Ballard and is active either with his own sextet or the bands of Alma Naidu, Shuteen Erdenebaatar and Luca Zambito, as well as the Jazzrausch Bigband on the stages of the Republic. His brother, the trombonist Moritz Renner, puts the finishing touches to his education at the same Swiss teaching institute at Adrian Mears. Apart from his studies, he can be heard with his own group or as a member of the BuJazzO as well as the Jazzrausch Bigband.

Bassist Nils Kugelmann is one of the shooting stars of the German jazz scene. The musician, who has just been awarded the “European Young Artist Award Burghausen”, is causing a sensation with his own trio and has already played with Johannes Enders, the Trio Elf or the Jazzrausch Bigband.
