About the concert

McCracken/Elion/Seemann is the project of three young jazz musicians who met during their joint studies at the Jazz Institute Berlin. Their music reflects their respective musical and cultural backgrounds – they play original compositions and give new interpretations to well-known jazz standards in their own way, sometimes pulsating, sometimes abstract and free, but always aware of the jazz tradition.

Her influences include Thelonious Monk, Brad Mehldau, Joe Lovano and Kurt Rosenwinkel.

Neil McCracken (*2003) is a pianist from Oban, Scotland. After the Junior Jazz Program of St. Mary’s Music School in Edinburgh he now studies at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with John Turville, Mark Hodgson, Percy Pursglove, John O’Gallagher and Mike Williams. He is currently doing a semester abroad at the Jazz Institute Berlin through the Erasmus program.

Liam Elion (*2001) is an Israeli trombonist, bassist and composer. He released his debut album “Almost Free!” on Varva Records and Music in September 2023. A month later he conducted two concerts at the Stockholm Jazz Festival. Liam is a graduate of the Global Jazz Institute from the Berklee Collage of Music and is currently pursuing a master’s degree at the University of the Arts Berlin via the EUjam program.

Finn Seemann (*2002) is a drummer and composer who grew up in Berlin and began studying at the renowned Jazz Institute Berlin in 2021. There he receives lessons from Heinrich Köbberling, Bastian Stein, David Friedman and Julius Apriadi and has worked in various formations of the young Berlin jazz scene ever since. Since 2022 he has been leading his own quintet.
