About the concert

The future of this music is definitely in good hands with Julia and Tatiana. They have a great chemistry between them and an amazing mastery of their instruments. In late autumn 2022, Tatiana Nova (vocals, effects, percussion) and Julia Perminova (piano, synthesizer) joined forces to form a unique duo that has become a living representative of a new sound in the world of contemporary jazz music. Everything is a bit more electronic.

We like to go beyond the boundaries of a duo and are therefore very diverse.“ Although both women were born and raised in Russia, their paths crossed abroad as part of the renowned jazz program “Focusyear” in Basel, Switzerland.

In her compositions, Slavic folk motifs mix with echoes of the Russian classical school. The love of both musicians for travel and different world cultures is also an inspiring factor for the duo. This resulted in an original style of music, filled with the energy of the past and present, Russian “roots” and global music.

Tatiana’s voice enchants her warmth and emotion, while Julia creates poetic images as if she were painting with watercolors on the keys. The musical style of the duo is characterised by an original approach to arrangement that embodies rhythmic and improvisational freedom. In this way, each concert by Tatiana Nova and Julia Perminova is an unparalleled musical journey that cannot be repeated.

On 28 September In June 2024, the duo released their debut album, which was recorded last summer at the legendary Bauer Studios in Ludwigsburg. “Echoes Of Home” is her musical “soul cry” echoing from her homeland – a feeling that is both individual and universal. Inspired by Russian poetry, Soviet fairy tales, the importance of freedom and the unity of people, the two musicians have created an album with eight original compositions that express this feeling.

In addition to Russian and English texts, they focus on instrumental singing and improvisation, continuously incorporating Brazilian and African rhythms as well as folkloric elements.
