Filip Żółtowski Quartet

The Filip Żółtowski Quartet combines the traditions of jazz improvisation with modern sounds and melodic themes, while also incorporating Polish folklore. Their music is a unique fusion of jazz, often heavily improvised, and electronic sounds inspired by producers from the pop and EDM scene such as Flume and Medasin, as well as hip-hop beats in the style of J. Dilla. At the center of this genre merger is jazz, influenced by greats such as Steve Coleman and Five Elements, Theo Croker and Brad Mehldau.
The band members are:
Filip Żółtowski – Trumpet
- Szymon Zawodny – Saxophon
- Wojtek Wojda – Synthesizer
- Mikołaj Stańko – drums
Their debut album "Humanity" was released in 2021 and has been positively received both in Poland and internationally, with over 100,000 views on YouTube. The quartet presented the album at numerous festivals, including Jazz Jantar (Gdańsk), Lublin Jazz Festival and Cesky Rozhlas Jazz Fest (Prague). Of particular note are her performances in the exclusive concert series JAZZ.PL of the 2nd edition. Programme of Polish Broadcasting and her third place at the Blue Note Competition in Poznan.
They were also recognized by the JazzPoPolsku Foundation at the Jazz Juniors Competition in Krakow.
Their new album, Bibi, marks a stronger shift towards electronic sounds with a more intense use of synthesizers that are interestingly combined with trumpet, saxophone and drums. The concept of the album focuses on individuality and the uniqueness of each person. The pieces reflect the author’s feelings, which are at the same time a mirror of the emotions of others – each of us experiences our own joys and dramas, but the accompanying emotions are often universal.
The music invites the listener to seek the truth about himself, to find answers to the questions of his own way and to accept himself.
