About the concert
Conchùr Ò Riain, voc Nina Baš, p Ceola unfolds a sonic realm in which both voice and piano serve as valuable and adaptable means of expression. The vocals move seamlessly from poem-packed lyrics to horn-like improvisations and unconventional vocalisations, harnessing the unique abilities of the human voice. The piano, positioned as a central orchestrating element, not only accompanies, but also serves as a dynamic means of sound painting and spontaneous alternation between pieces. Since 2021, the duo has been writing and playing their own compositions throughout Europe.
Her sound has evolved and reflects her continuous drive to be risk-taking and forward-thinking composers and performers. With techniques such as prepared piano and advanced vocal methods, Nina and Conor are recognized as ambitious and committed musicians. In 2022, they released their first self-produced album, The Perks of Simplicity, which features original music and interpretations of unconventional songs by their most inspiring artists. This album has been presented at various venues in Vienna, including Jazz Cafe ZWE, Cafe 7stern, Brick-15 and Old Town Hall.
Their performances led to invitations to prestigious venues in Ireland and Spain, such as Dolans Upstairs in Limerick and Can Simon in Barcelona. In recent months, they have written new music and recorded four tracks for their upcoming self-titled album. This new work delves deeper into instrumental songwriting and uses voice and piano as expressive instruments. They plan to return to the studio in autumn to finish the album and expand their sound with additional instruments as well as collaborations with local Viennese musicians from the vibrant jazz scene.
