About the concert
Andrew Moorhead is a pianist and composer from the USA. In his solo playing, he combines elements of jazz and free improvisation with influences of minimalism. His approach to music via mathematics is particularly fascinating – he uses relationships from number theory to open up new harmonic structures and musical concepts.
Andrew currently lives in Dresden, where he works as a research mathematician at TU Dresden. Previously, he worked as a professional pianist in various cities in the USA, including Austin (TX), Denver (CO) and Kansas City (MO).
His playing is sonically rich, structurally sophisticated and always in search of new possibilities of expression. “His harmonic mind and ear are excellent ... A big talent.” by Richie Beirach
