About the concert

With IN RESIDENCE we invite young musicians to guest for several days in the Blue Note. In the evening they play concerts on our stage, during the day they explore Dresden and collect new impressions.

Bands from different regions with different musical approaches can be experienced. We are looking forward to a versatile and inspiring concert summer.

“Gnothi Sauton” and “Per aspera ad astra” – maxims like these resonate in the music of Alessio Cazzetta. The guitarist with Italian-South African roots combines a raw, at the same time sparkling sound language with the pursuit of transcendence. His music creates an inviting, wide-sized atmosphere that captivates listeners worldwide.

Cazzetta combines influences from all four directions in his music. Between Coltrane, Hendrix, Indian classical and neo-romantic, a multi-layered sound moves, which subtly and at the same time decisively eludes any categorization.

This musical quest led him to stages in numerous countries. He has played with artists such as David Binney, Yumi Ito, Vijay Iyer, Nat Su and Caleb Wheeler Curtis – among others at festivals such as the Kathmandu Jazz Festival, the Cairo Jazz Festival and the Montreux Jazz Festival as well as in established clubs in Europe, Japan and South America.

The focus of the current program is his new album Love, Death & The Eternal Blues (VÖ November), which deals with the existential struggles of life – a musical commitment to reality and to overcoming suffering. In addition to a European line-up, the US saxophonist David Binney can also be heard on the recording.

Alessio Cazzetta’s ‘Love, Death & The Eternal Blues’ is almost beyond comparison. The guitarist has succeeded in creating a unitary galaxy... a universal album for universal spirits!

  • Wolf Kampmann

Cazzetta currently lives in Basel and is increasingly establishing himself as a congenial guitarist and composer (Roche n’ Jazz) on a national and international level. From there he unfolds his musical ideas – always open to new horizons.
