ATMA

ATMA is an Amsterdam-based quintet around Dutch guitarist and composer Prashant Samlal. The music of the band moves in a field of tension between open improvisation, finely elaborated passages and complex harmonic structures. Inspired by spiritual jazz of the 1960s, modern classical music and the search for an inner center, ATMA develops a sound language that is as expressive as it is contemplative.

The focus is on free musical dialogue, in which the individual musicians can develop their ideas unhindered. The current EP Atma is devoted to the subject of introspection and describes a journey through emotional states such as fear, love, creativity and transience – an introspective work about being human and expressing through music.

ATMA presents live pieces from this EP as well as new, previously unreleased compositions.
