Paulinus Stegner Quartett

Paulinus Stegner Quartett

With an unusual line-up of horn, piano (Julian Kay Zichner), bass (Kevin Knödler) and drums (Ben Scheibe), the quartet moves stylistically between straight-ahead jazz and post-bop. The focus is on his own compositions, which partly build on the traditions of bebop and hardbop, but are also in the influence of contemporary jazz and build bridges to other styles. Some of the tracks were awarded first prize at the Beyond Borders French Horn Composition Competition in Portugal in 2024 and are now re-arranged for the band.

The band members have met in the university context and in the Jugendjazzorchester Sachsen and bring various influences into the band work.

Paulinus Stegner (*1999 in Berlin) studied Horn in Leipzig, where he received a classical education as well as lessons in improvisation, jazz arrangement and composition. He writes arrangements and. A. for the big band Spielvereinigung Sued, the university big band of HMT Leipzig and The Bigband Messengers. He currently plays at the Academy of the Symphony Orchestra in Wuppertal. He is the founder and organizational head of the band, whose musical work takes place as an equal artistic process.
