About the concert
Slovenian saxophone master tours with international trio in Denmark and Germany
Jure Pukl has been at the forefront of modern jazz in New York for over 20 years. His eight albums as a bandleader have been highly acclaimed by Downbeat, The New York Times, Jazzwise and many other renowned media outlets.
Pukl teamed up with Danish bassist Kenneth Dahl Knudsen, about whom UKVIBE wrote: “Knudsen is one of the most important artists currently working in Europe.”
The two musicians have already worked together in the trio before, and Pukl has accompanied Knudsen on his tours in Germany.
The quartet is complemented by Italian pianist Davide Incorvaia and Belgian drummer Yannick Ballmann. Both originate from the vibrant jazz scenes of Boston and Berlin and are now active in numerous projects throughout Europe.
Especially “in the whole of Europe” is more topical than ever – in a time when borders and divisions shape the global discourse, Knudsen sees this project as a testament to the connecting power of music. Jazz has always been a medium of connection, and through their performances, these artists create a space where cultures, identities and stories interweave seamlessly. Their music reflects a shared youth with strong rock influences, combined with years of experience in the modern jazz scenes from New York to Berlin.
Both Pukl and Knudsen write music that is deeply rooted in their rock roots but builds on decades of careers in the modern jazz scenes of New York, Berlin and beyond.
