About the concert

Kjetil Mulelid Trio is regarded as one of Europe’s outstanding piano trios and has established itself as a staple in modern jazz since its inception. Pianist and composer Kjetil Mulelid, bassist Rune Nergaard and drummer Andreas Winther are among the most exciting young jazz musicians in Norway and are also active in renowned projects such as the Spellemann Prize winners Morgonrode or the Spellemann-nominated Wako.

In 2017, the trio released their debut album Not Nearly Enough To Buy A House on the prestigious label Rune Grammofon, known for exceptional experimental, electronic and improvised music from Scandinavia. The album received international acclaim, often with comparisons to Keith Jarrett and Bill Evans. 2019 followed the second album What You Thought Was Home, which was highly acclaimed by trade magazines such as The Wire ("magic") and Jazzwise ("impressive").

With the third album Who Do You Love the Most? (2022), the band hit a small hit on Spotify, as well as a renewed wave of positive reviews, including from International Piano Magazine, which described it as “beautiful and refreshing”.

Musically, the Kjetil Mulelid Trio stands for the combination of Mulelid’s memorable, melodic compositions with energetic, rhythmically complex and harmoniously rich structures. The pieces are characterized by a balance of powerful passages and lyrical, atmospheric moments. The unmistakable, Scandinavian-influenced sound is enriched with improvisational freedom and the individual handwriting of each band member. In their concerts, the trio unfolds a dynamic, ever-growing organic sound that combines depth, intensity and sonic subtlety.
