About the concert
Origina1Nerd – a band name that makes you suspicious at first – why the “1” in the name? The origin comes from the stylistic means often used in computer forums for naming accounts. This is where the original nerds can be found. In the forum of Origina1Nerd, five young musicians have come together to both compose and present original music in a “nerdy” jazz format.
The result of this process can be found on the band’s second album “System Overload” – a mixture of harmonious concepts and improvisation of jazz, compositional and rhythmic elements of progressive rock, emulsified with the help of a wide range of sounds of electronic music. After a brief analysis by Austrian drummer Herbert Pirker, Prog Jazz emerged as a suitable genre name.
In order to develop this genre mix into a working and sophisticated sound concept, in which elements such as odd meters, sequencing, metric modulation etc. The band had to work on the filigree balance between complex rhythm and harmonics - with success. Although the notation of many pieces resembles mathematical equations, Origina1Nerd manages to find a highly musical solution for each composition. This was also recognized by the jury of Ton Art Tirol, which awarded the band and its musical director Max Glanz the Tirol Youth Jazz Prize 2022.
After Origina1Nerd's debut album "Unknown Error" from 2022, the follow-up album "System Overload" was released in November 2024, in which the existing compositional concept was refined and given space in addition to the usual acoustic elements also more electrical effects.
