About the concert
The Justin Remfrey New Trio plays the more melodic and tonal jazz compositions of Berlin bassist and composer Justin Remfrey. Quiet precision without mathematical coldness and focus on the overall sound characterizes this formation. It is broken with harmonious clichés to dedicate in the end again an unfiltered tribute to those sounds that have been previously questioned.
A steady pulse is breathed by the three musicians, gradually de-articulated. Nevertheless, in the end there is still room for spontaneity and abstraction. Minimalism and tranquility give a special energy that is to be cultivated through the play of the three musicians.
Justin Remfrey studied Kontrbass at the Jazzinstitut Berlin and has already been on stage in various formations (Das Rosa Rauschen, Ark White, Abtauen Warmen Warmhalten). In recent years he has worked with musicians such as Marc Schmolling, Felix Wahnschaffe, Willi Kellers, John Schröder and Achim Kaufmann. This year’s highlight was a solo tour in Japan.
The other musicians of the Justin Remfrey New Trio are:
- Jakob Reisener New (York/Berlin, piano)
- Timothy Remfrey (Lisbon, drums)
