The Belgian Blue

The Belgian Blue

What happens when an Irishman, an American and an Austrian make music together? Eerily intense indie folk, which Padraig, Ian and Mo celebrate as The Belgian Blue in equally intense concerts. The trio is thus no longer a secret insider tip in Austria. In the meantime, The Belgian Blue have grown into a five-piece band, but still like to play in trio formation – as on 25 April in the Blue Note.

The Belgian Blue combines traditional folk elements from the Irish and American musical traditions with lyrics that deal with the current stories of working class heroes in Austria’s gold-plated capital. The sound of the band is created by combining classic folk instruments such as banjo and guitar with experimental sound design, atmospheric soundscapes and subtle percussion.

The Belgian Blue are now an integral part of the European music scene and have played numerous concerts, including at the Blue Bird Festival, at the legendary Whelan’s Pub in Dublin, as guests at the Royal Albert Hall and as support for The Swell Season at the Wiener Konzerthaus.
