Myrsini Bekakou Quartet

An exciting yet moving sound characterizes the Myrsini Bekakou Quartet. The violin is at the center of an ensemble sound that unfolds between precise form and open risk.
The starting point of the music are Greek rhythms and melodies – not as a fixed reference system, but as a material that eludes limitation.
Instead of remaining in predetermined forms, the music opens through improvisation and modal jazz language. This creates a sound space that is constantly shifting and redefining without having to rely on clear assignments.
In her compositions, Myrsini Bekakou draws on impressions connected with the place where she grew up. These do not appear narrative, but rather shape the handling of time, movement and condensation in musical material.
