LARUS

LARUS is the trio of guitarist and composer Mareille Merck. Named after the silver gull, the band combines modern jazz with atmospheric soundscapes, powerful grooves and great improvisational freedom. Merck’s distinctive style combines influences of jazz, fingerstyle guitar and rock into a distinct sound language, praised by the press for its virtuosity and dramaturgical depth.

After the highly acclaimed albums Fadenschlag and Stille Wasser, LARUS 2026 presents itself in a new international line-up with Swiss bassist Louise Knobil and Cologne drummer Hendrik Eichler. Together, the trio creates music full of excitement, fine interaction and narrative power. Like the seagull that gives the ensemble its name, LARUS roams a wide variety of musical landscapes – sometimes far and quiet, sometimes stormy and full of energy. A modern jazz trio with a clear profile and great sonic depth.
