Ike & The Capers

The band’s story began in the summer of 1994, when Ike Stoye, Maurice Hägler and Axel Praefcke made their first recordings together in a Berlin studio. When listening to the first takes, it quickly became clear: A drum kit had to be produced. With Tina Passberg, who had already been intensively involved in second-line drumming since her childhood, the first permanent line-up was complete. The sound became fuller, the interaction tighter – and the band developed rapidly.
In May 1995 they left Berlin for their first major appearance outside the city: Together with Crazy Cavan they played in Bremen. Shortly thereafter followed a record deal with Part Records. The debut album Loud and Silent became a success throughout Europe and opened the doors for extended tours through Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Belgium and Spain.
In 1997, he performed at two of Europe’s most important rock’n’roll and rockabilly festivals, the Hemsby Rock’n’Roll Weekender and the Rockabilly Rave. At the same time, the EP I’m Not Shy to Do appeared on Part Records and the second longplayer on the Spanish label SFAX Records.
In June 1998, the band travelled to Jönköping, Sweden, to record the album Four Alley Cats at TAIL Recording Studio. Afterwards we went for four weeks on a big USA tour through California, Washington, Colorado, Nevada and Arizona.
With Hello There, the next longplayer appeared on TAIL in 2000. This was followed by numerous festival appearances in Germany and France, as well as a performance at the legendary Rockin’ 50s Fest in Green Bay, Wisconsin in 2002. Shortly afterwards the collaboration with Rhythm Bomb Records began, where in 2006 the album Jukebox Favorites was released.
Today, the band has returned to where it all began: as a trio. Three musicians, rockabilly and rock’n’roll without superfluous bells and whistles – back to the roots.
That’s All Right, Mama!
