Good Habits are a dynamic indie folk band with a special ability to turn existential thoughts into bursts of unbridled optimism.
With vocals, cello, accordion, synthesizers and drums as the core of their sound, they create music that is virtuosic and cinematic – and above all, a lot of fun. A mixture of folk-like storytelling, groovy energy and existential hope.
The band was founded by singer and cellist Bonnie Schwarz and accordionist and synthesizer player Pete Shaw. Their journey together began through a stroke of fate: stranded in New Zealand during the pandemic, they transformed their temporary home into a place of sparkling creativity. They discovered their love of life as troubadours – to share songs and stories and to make real human connections everywhere. This sense of adventure – music as an anchor and passport at the same time – has remained an integral part of their identity even after their return to their homeland.
In 2025, Good Habits formed a new and powerful formation: with the drummer Jen Walinetski (Miles Kane) on board, her already dynamic live show received a rhythmic boost that electrifies the audience. Together, they create performances that are equally characterized by virtuosic skill, mischievous energy and deep human connection.
Their album “Quarter-Life” made it into the British folk-top 40 and garnered praise from BBC Radio 2, 6 Music and 5 Live. Critics hailed their sound as the “musical excellence of the 21st century”. Century (Tom Robinson, BBC). They also played at prestigious festivals such as Glastonbury, WOMAD Aotearoa, Port Fairy (Australia), Cambridge, Green Man, Kendal Calling and many more.
For Good Habits, the focus is on connecting to others. With the release of Better for Now in October 2026 – their first album as a trio – Good Habits boldly starts the next chapter: a lively, optimistic merging of stories, songs and pure musical joy.
