About the concert

Paul Andrew // Saxophon Tobias Altripp // Piano Moritz Koser // Kontrabass Jonas Esser // Drums

While the two existing projects of Tobias Altripp (“Pentatrip” and “Expedition Quäck”) are primarily concerned with their own compositions, his trio is now primarily concerned with playing jazz standards. In rehearsals and private sessions, the world of standard compositions is explored further and further together and on stage the three Mannheim musicians then present their spontaneous and occasionally planned ideas, decorated with gentle reenactments and enjoyed playing the sometimes more, sometimes less well-known standard works.

This time, the trio will also present itself with a feature guest from the Baden-Württemberg jazz scene: Saxophonist Paul Andrew

Paul Andrew grew up in Freiburg im Breisgau as the son of two professional musicians. From the age of four he received piano lessons, from the age of ten years then lessons on the saxophone followed. Immediately after graduating from high school he went to Mannheim, where he began to study saxophone with Jürgen Seefelder in the course of studies Jazz / Popular Music. In 2017, he spent a semester together with drummer Christoph Müller in Salvador, Brazil, where he taught at the Federal University of Bahia UFBA with Rowney Scott.

In Salvador he became a member of the band “Flowin Tension” founded by Christoph Müller at the time and founded the duo “Brazulka” with the Brazilian guitarist Tarcísio Santos. Furthermore, Paul Andrew has been an integral part of the Funk/Soul band “Fatcat” since 2013, with which he is on the international stage and has been on numerous club and festival stages. In 2018 he founded his own large band project “Silk & Steel”. A classic quintet line-up consisting of piano, guitar, bass, drums and saxophone is complemented by a string quartet.

With this project, Paul Andrews made his first solo CD, which was released in February 2019.
