Albinobrothers are like old whiskey, Like a freshly cut blade,
- an experienced intoxication...
Press release
With “Blue Boy Gets Below” (2019), Tobias Werner has finished his Albinoblues triology. It is the third album after “Albinoblues” (2011) and “Gift” (2016) and for this reason he goes on tour with this material for the first time.
The duo of drums (Ronny Wunderwald) and guitar (Tobias Werner) are on the road as ALBINOBROTHERS.
One should not promise too much. Many well-functioning members of our society probably drip off these songs. Glide down on it like oil-smeared old sheet metal and turn in a different direction. Tobias Werner’s plays are brittle, viscous, misleading, loose and sometimes dogged or brutalized. And they are loving, detailed and with care set in place and time. Other people, on the other hand - those who are wounded, scabbed or scarred, swollen, paralyzed or lost - enter them quite easily. Like an oven-warm night asylum where food is on the table and a neon tube flickers.
“Blue Boy Gets Below” is to the hip in swampy blues, in ancient songs and future sounds. Lines sometimes drip so unexpectedly in the midst of beautiful instrumentals, as if they were frightened from a daydream. Or how cognition, which peels out of a lysergenic noise, briefly breaks through the surface and is branched and superimposed again. As if it took the way these songs take to get to the respective thoughts.
Similar to the band Helga Blohm Dynastie, in which both play otherwise, this music is not about having to please an audience. It is about attitude and purification, about self-knowledge and self-behavior.
It can please an audience. And this is the best of all cases.
