Brasil Electric

Brasil Electric is a trio from Dresden and plays an electrifying melange of traditional Brazilian music (Samba, Baião, Ijexa, Choro...), funky jazz and progressive rock elements. The band was founded at the end of 2013 as “Brasil Acoustic Quintet” and two years later could already release an album under the same name. After some detours, the musical activity was resumed in 2019 with a new cast and name.
The guitarist and founder of the band Stephan Pankow started already in 2010, after a stay abroad in Salvador da Bahia / Brazil, to write first pieces for a quintet. There he had intensively dealt with the Chorinho and "musica popular brasileira". Back in Germany, he wanted to combine the influences of his own music with the experiences from Brazil.
Eduardo Mota, himself a native of Brazil from Salvador, was studying Schlagwerk/Neue Musik in Dresden at the same time. Thus, the two began to exchange about their shared experiences and different cultural backgrounds.
For Stephan’s graduate concert, they founded the “Brasil Acoustic Quintet”, which then played concerts and small tours in and around Germany for 3 years. After a short break, with the support of Philipp Hertrampf on the electric bass, they are now on their way to reunite the musical forces and open a new chapter in the band’s history.
