About the concert

Born in Holland, Kiki Manders has traded Amsterdam and New York for Berlin. The harsh beauty of the capital is clearly heard in its musical kaleidoscopic world, where it cleverly brings together musical finesse and sophisticated storytelling.

Sebastian Merk, born in 1977 in Frankfurt a.M., is now one of the most sought-after drummers in Germany and beyond who feels at home in the most diverse facets of jazz.

In 2000, he was awarded the Jazz Work Scholarship of the City of Frankfurt, which enabled him to play a further training guest in the jazz metropolis of New York. (workshops with Joey Baron, among others) From 1999 to 2002 he was a member of the Hesse State Youth Jazz Orchestra.

His studies led him to Weimar (Hfm “Franz Liszt”) finally in 2001 to Berlin at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler”. Since then he has worked there in various projects and bands of the German and international scene.

He is currently working with the Studnitzky Trio, Johannes Enders Trio, Spaniol4, Poetry Clan, Wollny/Fink/Merk, Walter Lang Trio and the Mark Wyand Quartet.

Sebastian Merk played with musicians such as Lee Konitz, Ack van Rooyen, Till Brönner, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Eddie Henderson, Mark Murphy, Ernie Watts, etc.
