FUSK

Rudi Mahall, cl + b-cl (DE) Andreas Lang, bass (DK) Kasper Tom, dr + composition (DK)
Kasper Tom Christiansen, the Danish drummer and bandleader of FUSK, is a wonderfully original representative on his instrument. Far from being a purist, he entertainingly mixes the genres, is as fit in the techniques of contemporary new music as in the improvisations of free jazz.
In this acoustic format, a joyful swing makes its way to quick-living and gripping actions. This creates refreshing music that plays pleasurably with our listening habits by operating them and blowing them through at the same time. Kasper Tom and Andreas Lang define what a rhythm section has to sound like today. Before that, Rudi Mahall and Tomasz Dabrowski celebrate their discourses as brothers in spirit.
"FUSK makes you happy!" summarized one critic. For another, this releases "a weightless depth and joy, followed by the desire that one's own life should more often go to multi-layered soundtracks like this." This earth-heavy and feather-light music convinces as the simple that is hard to make. Or better: than the difficult, translated back into a ripped-off weightlessness. The Academy dances without thinking tasks. Rubbing your ears and wondering! Or, as the poet Karl Mickel once put it: "If it's not fun, it's not fun."
