wenet – organ electric jazz trio

• Werner Neumann – guitar
• Steffen Greisiger – organ
• Tom Friedrich – drums

Great masters such as Wes Montgomery, John Abercrombie or John McLaughlin loved their organ rios and set standards for this formation. The band around Leipzig guitarist Werner Neumann combines this tradition with contemporary jazz rock, R&B and soul. With Steffen Greisiger on the organ and Tom Friedrich on the drums, two great players were found for this project. wenet celebrates the breakdown between jazz, rock, soul, blues and gospel.

It bows to the songs and celebrates the sacred moment in jazz: the improvisation, the interplay, the communication between the musicians and between the band and the audience.

The debut CD Neue Heimat was released in October 2020 by Lakeland Records.

... guitarist Werner Neumann has now distinguished himself as one of the most mature virtuosos on the European music scene. The stylistic versatility of Neumann is astonishing. Against all purism, he is equally at home in jazz, fusion music and rock, even harder gaits ... On stage in particular, Werner Neumann’s hidden musical roots clearly come to light when, for example, he sweeps through the moderate jazz landscape with overdriven sound storms from a Jimi Hendrix.

Such surprising leaps and contrasts in the stylistic concept, which, however, never seem inappropriate, but on the contrary, extremely refreshing, are part of the individual style of the guitarist, who was able to develop over the years through a skilful, successful intertwining of rock and jazz origin lines.
