FLOOT BIRD is an exploration of jazz, electronics, and bird
recordings realised by the virtuosic improvisers I’ve been
working with around Europe and produced by Berlin Producer
Petter Eldh. Moving beyond the limitations of traditional acoustic
jazz recordings, I approached this album with a focus on post-
production—layering, sampling, and looping to create a rich,
immersive sonic world. Recorded over four days, the sessions
prioritized capturing raw material that could be reworked and
reshaped, as well as documenting performances.
At the heart of FLOOT BIRD is a collective of exceptional
improvising musicians, each with a distinct and powerful voice
on their instrument. Their spontaneous creativity and unique
phrasing are integral to the album, providing contrast and
interplay with the structured electronic elements.
A defining feature of the album is the integration of field
recordings of Australian bird calls, recorded by my father. These
sounds serve as rhythmic and harmonic foundations, processed
and manipulated alongside drum machines, synth textures, and
acoustic instrumentation. My recent studies with Petter Eldh
have sharpened my ability to blend complex rhythms with
groove-driven structures, drawing inspiration from artists like
Aphex Twin, Steve Lehman, Jim Black.
At the core of the album is a three-part suite built from
fragmented and reassembled bird recordings, alongside
compositions developed through sampling, digital manipulation,
and improvisation. FLOOT BIRD represents my deepening
interest in electronic music production, finding new ways to
bridge acoustic and digital worlds while pushing beyond the
boundaries of jazz.
