Sondre Moshagen Lightning Trio is an energetic and innovative piano trio consisting of Sondre Moshagen (piano), Kertu Aer (double bass), and Steinar Heide Bø (drums). The music is rooted in Moshagen’s picturesque, genre-crossing compositions, drawing inspiration from avant-garde jazz, impressionism, and serialism, among others. Within a contrast-rich and interactive soundscape, featuring intuitive melodies and complex rhythmic structures, the trio invites and challenges the listener into its captivating musical universe.

The trio met while studying together at the Jazz Department in Trondheim (NTNU) in the autumn of 2022. In 2024, they were named “Young Jazz Musicians of the Year” through the prestigious launch programme “Jazzintro”, resulting in an extensive festival tour across Norway the following year, as well as to collaborate with internationally renowned artists such as Immanuel Wilkins and Kit Downes. The trio’s debut album, Lightning, was released on Jazzland Recordings in the autumn of 2025 and has received excellent reviews in magazines such as Aftenposten, Dagens Næringsliv, Dagsavisen, UK Vibe, Freq UK, and Citizen Jazz. This summer, they are releasing the track “Forever” featuring Kit Downes.
