Whiskydenker

Grammophonesque flickering swing – snotty and musically 1a artfully smashed, crooked, toasted and growled. And in German. This is jazz music again, to which the working class can lay a brisk sole on the floor with the cultural elite. Here you return to what swing should actually be: danceable, straightforward and entertaining. If you now add a good portion of street knobs, ballhouse atmosphere, garage bandage and musical audacity, you can imagine how whisky thinkers sound. «The ham dit jewisse avec» could be said by the Berliner. And this comes not by chance, but by 4 musicians who very often know what they are doing and instrument this well: singing and trumpet, banjo, percussion – and the bass blows out of the Tubax, a monstrous bastard made of saxophone and tuba.

The whisky thinkers presented themselves as jazz craft masters, who know how to bring a good dose of humor on stage in addition to good music. Flo Wehse in particular turned out to be a real entertainer with a heart and snout, who – apart from the music – obviously takes nothing and nobody seriously.

The tape appears like a filter that has absorbed all kinds of influences and, after a thorough reprocessing, spits them out for further use. There are intersections with contemporary bands and playwriters, but at the same time also the recourse to traditional jazz plays and the many funny (w)erring text passages, which often remind a little of the superfathers of the Berlin anarcho-cabaret scene “Insterburg & Co”.
