jazz

The opener to today's session will be played by Murmullo.Jonathan Maag (ts), Florian Weiss (tb), Franz Hellmueller (guit), Rafael Jerjen (b), Clemens Kuratle (drums/comp) The band Murmullo, around drummer Clemens Kuratle consists of 5 high-calibre musicians and bandleaders from Switzerland and promises furious interplay and multilayered compositions that go under the skin. 2019 she was nominated for the ZKB Jazz Prize. The band, consisting of high-class musicians from the European jazz scene, combines the uncompromising and playing power of the 70s with the versatility and rhythmic freedom of today’s music. The compositions are not simply improvisational vehicles but result from the examination of contemporary events, literature and art from the present. For example, the track “To The Holy Land” which deals with the Middle East conflict, or the track Aunt Rose, which is based on the poem of the same name by Beat-Poet Allen Ginsberg. The band’s palette of sounds, enriched with electroacoustic effects, ranges from spherical, anthemic sounds to unconventional, driving grooves and the melodies set a motivic and emotional direction that fuels and inspires the improvisations of the soloists.
