No matter on which wavelengths we try to listen to interstellar radio traffic, no matter in which cardinal direction we align our radio telescopes: Except for noise, nothing so far. So even music sends out, expressing through it how we perceive our world and what feelings we carry within us.

The jazz quartet around the Cologne alto saxophonist Johanna Klein was founded in Cologne in 2018. In addition to the bandleader, the Cologne jazz musicians Jan Philipp play on drums, Leo Engels on guitar and Nicolai Amrehn on double bass. In the own compositions, spherical sounds meet expressive play, free improvisation meets fixed schemas and chaos meets order. Acoustically operated drums, double bass and saxophone are complemented by the electronically alienated and distorted sound of the electric guitar. In 2019, the Johanna Klein Quartet won the jazz competition jazz@undesigned by Dr. Carl Dörken Foundation. In May 2021, the debut album COSMOS was released under the label Berthold Records, which will now be presented on stage. At the beginning of August this year, the band played at the Avignon Jazz Festival in France and won first prize in the category Composition.
