De Backer : Deller : Roth Trio
Bassist Stephan Deller and drummer Steffen Roth have been working together for several years in various casts of the freely improvised music scene in and around Leipzig (MOTUSNEU, bracial). Through the festival (((potentiale))) they met the Belgian baritone saxophonist Hanne de Backer in 2022, who attracted attention at the European improvisation festivals a few years ago. The massive and sensitive instrument, the baritn saxophone, may come from her rock background; the sense of place and movement may come from her acting training. She wanders through many stations and takes from everything that flows with what then into the next. Performance, theater, be-bop, free jazz and rock always take place as Hanne de Backer when she performs. On this short tour through Saxony and Thuringia, the musicians now get to know each other better and bring their similar musical socialization together on stage ad hoc and let the audience participate in the process of creating formless music.
