David Soyza Quartett

David Soyza Quartett

“Colorful compositions and orchestrations with surprise turns, excellent and yet tasteful playing by everyone.” This is how Peter Herbert describes the music on the debut album “Taking the Lead” by the David Soyza Quartet. The music of Soyza leads the listeners to the film screen of a small program cinema, to a painting or simply to the local jazz club next door. Whether “Dancer in the Mist” or “Hot New Orleans Sun” each composition tells a story. In the new program, the bandleader processes the sources of inspiration from the last pandemic years. Even if this music is sometimes a bit more melancholy and multi-layered, it never loses its approachability. These pieces also have something to tell; they are just different stories. The line-up with two harmonic instruments enables an extensive spectrum of different sounds and breaks down given roles. Each instrument has its place, but can leave it if necessary and equally slip into a soloist or companion role. The risky interaction and intuitive sensitivity of the individual musicians leads to the transparent and varied band sound of this contemporary jazz quartet.
