Bilderbuch met in Mannheim in the summer of 2015, where the five music students met at the university. Characterized by similar influences and a convergent sound vision, the five musicians quickly developed a homogeneous band sound.
They won the first prize of the Future Sounds Jazz Competition in November 2016, as part of the Leverkusener Jazztage and were finalists at the 9th in March 2017. European Burghauser Junior Jazz Prize, as well as finalists at the Getxo Jazz Prize in Spain in the summer of 2018, in the “JazzFruit International Contest Prague” and the “Rising Star Evening” of the Stuttgart Jazz Days.
The repertoire of the picture book consists largely of original compositions, with the play with the antagonism of simplicity and complexity making up the special appeal of the pieces. There is plenty of room for interplay and improvisation, which ensures a constant high tension between the musicians and noticeable energy in the room.
In the summer of 2019, her debut album “Presenting Bilderband” was released under Unit Records.
Before the start of the pandemic, the band was able to complete their first major international tour in Taiwan.
