Odd Meter Ensemble

Odd Meter Ensemble
Compositions and Arrangements by Diego Piñera
The Odd Meter Ensemble of the Carl Maria von Weber Dresden School of Music presents a concert with compositions and arrangements by the Uruguayan jazz musician and drummer who leads the ensemble as musician and professor.
Piñera’s music combines Latin American rhythm, modern jazz and improvisational freedom with a particular fascination for odd bars. Rhythm is not only accompaniment, but also a central compositional element: the music thrives on complex rhythmic structures, polyrhythms and the principle of the clave, which is transferred into new metric contexts. At the same time, the compositions remain open to interaction and spontaneous musical decisions.
