Hadern

Casual rhythms, polyphonic chants, acoustic instruments, concocted arrangements and texts for the dark side of the garage yard. Gassen-Folk in the best German suburban manner.

Hadern (1.) Verb: “disputing”, “revolting”, 2. Subst., dialect: “Lumpen” is a singer/songwriter chapel with proximity to Anglo-Saxon folk music. Singer Michael ‘Endverbraucher’ Schrenk returned to Munich in 2017 from a long stay in Berlin – a stack of German-language songs in his luggage. His old friends from The Moonband helped him musically to present them on open stages and smaller concerts, ultimately recording and publishing them. In spring 2018, the single/EP and the video “High Performer” were created. During an Irish folk session, Schrenk met the two musicians Florian Dérangé (Bodhrán, singing) and Fernando Gschwendtner (double bass), who joined at the end of 2018 and finally, with Anna ‘Doc’ Martin (accordion, singing), Katrin Bobek (mandolin, singing) and Eugen Mondbasis (guitar, Bouzouki, singing) of The Moonband, formed the provisional line-up. Schrenk and Mondbasis expanded the lyrical repertoire together and thus emerged in the years 2019-2021, in cooperation with the producer Martin M. Hermann, the debut album “Guter Mann”. In the summer of 2021, Elena Rakete (also from The Moonband) joined the group as a drummer and permanent band member. What is baked musically here is folk and pop, are traditional Irish tunes, punk, gypsy swing and Bavarian parlour music. Despite these diverse influences, the band has been able to develop their very own sound in recent years: Let’s call it “Gassen-Folk”.
