The award-winning trumpeter and composer Jakob Bänsch is one of the rising stars of the European jazz scene and is already compared by the famous jazz critic Bill Milkowski with the young Wynton Marsalis. “Powerfully confident in the succession of classical masters of his profession” (Süddeutsche Zeitung) he now publishes his highly anticipated debut album Opening, which will be released on 28 May. April 2023 will appear on Jazzline. Growing up as the son of classical musicians at Pforzheim, he began playing the piano and trumpet at an early age, immersed himself in classical music and played in several orchestras before discovering jazz at the age of 12. Now he plays with his quartet in the most prestigious jazz locations throughout Germany and worked with international jazz greats such as Nils Landgren, Bob Mintzer, Wolfgang Haffner, Billy Hart, Emil Mangelsdorff and the WDR Big Band. Already at a young age he was a member of the Bundesjazzorchester and the Elbphilharmonie Jazz Academy and was recently awarded the soloist prize of the Münchner Jazzpreis. On his debut album, together with his quartet, he presents his own music, which is a combination of lyrical melodies, virtuosic jazz, spherical sound worlds as well as symphonic and classical elements.
