Noé Tavelli & The Argonauts

Fresh, raw and experimental is the sound of these innovative musicians. Since they have all lived in New York for a long time, the unmistakable pulsating dynamics of that scene can be heard strongly in their sound. Without fear of touch, the band mixes tradition with modernity.

Matthias Spillmann: Trumpet, Flugelhorn
Francesco Geminiani : Tenorsaxophon
Manuel Schmiedel: Piano
Fabien Iannone : Kontrabass
Noé Tavelli: Schlagzeug, Kompositionen

Noé Tavelli & The Argonauts was initially founded as a quartet in 2017 and brings together exceptional musicians from the Swiss and transalpine scene. The band’s music is driven by the influences and dynamism of the New York scene that each of the members has visited. The result is a captivating and ambitious fusion of traditional and modern jazz, harmoniously combining complex compositions with moments of improvisational freedom. Their debut album Noé Tavelli & The Argonauts Collective, which was released in 2019 by Double Moon Records / Jazzthing as part of the prestigious series Next Generation (Vol.78), earned the band an Discoverer Award awarded by Jazz Magazine (France). Swiss music critic Fredi Hallauer praised it as "undoubtedly among the best (albums) of contemporary jazz". In 2020, the band was expanded to the quintet by recording the talented German pianist Manuel Schmiedel from New York, who is known for his collaboration with Kurt Rosenwinkel, the Lisbeth Quartet and Dayna Stephens. In 2022, Noé Tavelli & The Argonauts presented their second album Inner Streams, which appeared on the renowned Catalan label Fresh Sound New Talent (which has published artists such as Brad Mehldau, Avishai Cohen and Robert Glasper). The album was largely received positively by critics in Europe, further cementing the band’s reputation as an indispensable force in the jazz scene. With their captivating music and extraordinary talent, Noé Tavelli & The Argonauts continue to delight listeners and fans.
