Matej Korbelič Quartett

Matej Korbelič Quartett

The Matej Korbelič Quartet is a young jazz band from Dresden, founded in 2021. The band consists of Matej Korbelič on trumpet and horn, Victor Möhmel on piano, Simon Kuban on double bass and Samuel Dietze on drums.

Matej Korbelič, who was born in Bratislava, studied classical music at the Bratislava Conservatory and performed regularly with professional ensembles during this time. After many years as a sideman, last year he decided to start his own band and compose his own compositions.

Victor Möhmel was born in 2001 in Dresden and received his first piano lessons at the age of 6. During his school years he developed an interest in jazz and improvised music and received lessons from cellist Peter Koch. Since 2020 he has been studying jazz piano at the Hochschule für Musik in Dresden.

Simon Kuban, born in Berlin, began early to try out different instruments and later switched to double bass. He finally decided to study at the Hochschule für Musik in Dresden, where he had lessons with various musicians and played in stylistically different bands.

Samuel Dietze, born in Hoyerswerda, took lessons in percussion and piano playing at the age of 4 and later turned to jazz and improvised music. He plays in various bands and has been studying jazz drums at the Hochschule für Musik in Dresden since 2021.

Together, the four musicians form the Matej Korbelič Quartet, which, with its passion for jazz and improvised music, offers an exciting mix of original compositions and reinterpretations of well-known pieces.
