Pies en la Tierra

Pies en la Tierra
Pies en la Tierra is an Ecuadorian band that combines urban music with traditional rhythms and sounds of different cultures. Her style combines elements of the “Banda de Pueblo” (Andean region), marimba (coastal region), pasillo (traditional urban music) and jazz, with a jazz quintet acting as a unifying element.
The band was formed in 2003 and has worked with notable artists such as Jorge Pardo, Perico Sambeat, Randy Brecker, Dave Samuels and many others. Her discography includes eight albums so far, including Pies en la Tierra (2004), Shungo (2009), Sinergia (2015), and Aeris and Play Standards RETAKE Feat. Perico Sambeat (both 2024). These productions have made the band an important representative of contemporary Ecuadorian music.
A trademark of Pies en la Tierra is the regular cooperation with international music greats. Through the integration of artists such as Ricardo Cavalli (Argentina), Anders Astrand (Sweden), Ben Kraef (Germany) and César González (Venezuela), their sound gains in depth and diversity.
The band’s repertoire consists largely of their own compositions, combining Ecuadorian and Latin American rhythms with modern harmonic and structural elements. Their arrangements are characterized by clear forms and a pronounced sound identity.
Since its foundation, Pies en la Tierra has impressed with its high musical and improvisational level and is now internationally recognized. The current line-up consists of Raimon Rovira (piano), Cayo Iturralde (bass), Pepe German (drums), Carlos Albán (drums), Gilberto Rivero (saxophone), Ramiro Olaciregui (guitar) and César González (Marimba & Percussion).
