Tobias Stavngaard Quartet

The Tobias Stavngaard Quartet is a young Danish band where modern compositional jazz meets classic jazz standards. The group’s focus is on creating music that speaks both to the brain and to the body.

Bandleader Tobias Stavngaard is a trombonist, composer, and arranger based in Copenhagen. He holds a master’s degree in composition from the National Danish Academy of Music (2024) and has received multiple awards for his compositions. In 2024, he won the Big Band Composition Contest for Young Baltic and Nordic Composers with his piece To Be, and in 2023 he received 2nd prize in the Nordic Composer Contest for his big band piece Dead as a Dodo. Alongside his work as a bandleader and composer, Tobias also plays trombone in the renowned Aarhus Jazz Orchestra.

The rhythm section consists of Danish pianist Carl-Emil Dons Christensen, Swedish bassist William Mannerland, and Danish drummer Nikolaj Bangsgaard. Both William and Nikolaj have studied at the Manhattan School of Music in New York.
