Nikita Sipiagin Quintet

Nikita Sipiagin Quintet
The Nikita Sipiagin Quintet is an international jazz formation founded in Basel in 2023, bringing together five outstanding young musicians from four continents:
Nikita Sipiagin - alto saxophone
Dima Bondarev – Trompete
Max Teakle – Klavier
Niklas Lukassen — Bass
Genius Wesley - drums
The band was born out of a joint period of study at the Jazzcampus Basel and the desire to create a project that merges the musical and cultural backgrounds of the individual members into an independent sound. Each of the five musicians is not only a virtuosic instrumentalist, but also a composer – so the repertoire consists of entirely own pieces, which are developed in close cooperation.
Stylistically, the quintet combines the sonic elegance of the European jazz tradition with the rhythmic energy and expressiveness of American jazz. The combination of trumpet and alto saxophone delivers a striking wind substitute that convinces in both lyrical passages and expressive improvisations. The rhythm group provides a variable foundation – from finely nuanced, transparent play to powerful, complex grooves. After the first successful concerts in 2024, further performances in Switzerland and in other European countries followed. In 2025, in addition to a tour, the production of the first joint recording is also on the program. In addition, the band is preparing for competitions and festivals such as the B-Jazz International Contest and the Em Bebby Festival.
The Quintet sees itself as a modern, internationally networked jazz formation that wants to consolidate its place in the European jazz scene with original compositions, virtuosic interplay and a clear musical signature.
