Julian Kay Trio

Julian Kay Trio

The Julian Kay Trio is an ensemble from Leipzig, consisting of three young musicians who met during their studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Leipzig. Her repertoire is deeply rooted in straight-ahead jazz, but opens up to influences from different musical cultures, giving a fresh, unexpected touch to any concert.

The Berlin-born pianist Julian Kay Zichner, whose musical path led from a classical piano education to the present jazz scene in Tokyo, is characterized by technical precision and a keen sense of musical structure and gives the tradition a new wind. Since 2021 he has been studying jazz piano in Leipzig with Professors Michael Wollny and Frank Chastenier.

Guillermo Valdivia on the double bass from Santiago de Chile, as a versatile musician, brings experience from numerous ensembles and projects ranging from modern jazz language to experimental formats. Since 2021 he has been studying at HMT Leipzig with Pepe Berns and has long since established himself as a profiled voice in other ensembles such as Professors Werner Neumann and Johannes Enders.

Christoph Sprenger, a drummer from Dresden, brings his versatile training – from classical percussion to big band and orchestral experience – to the trio with technical precision and a fine musical flair. Since 2024 he has been studying jazz drums with Dominique Ehlert and Eric Schaefer in Leipzig.
