Alou String Quartet

Jazz · Klassik

The Alou String Quartet combines the classical string quartet line-up with the stylistic freedom of jazz, groove and improvisation – inspired by ensembles such as the Turtle Island String Quartet. They perform their own compositions and arrangements, which reflect a versatility born of the four members’ different life paths, backgrounds and enthusiasm for diverse musical styles. The quartet invites the audience to immerse themselves in a world of rich chords, dynamic rhythms and profound improvisations
.
Since its formation in 2023, the quartet has been performing regular concerts at venues including Porgy & Bess
(Vienna), bflat (Berlin), at events organised by Leipjazzig e.V. and Jazzkitchen Hamburg
, and at festivals such as the Detect Classic Festival. The ensemble has already been involved in various productions, including the studio recording for Zartmann’s ‘Schönhauser’ EP and a live session with the newcomer Jassin. In October/November 2025, the Alou String Quartet went on tour to China with the Nuhussel Orchestra Hamburg.
The quartet’s debut album was recorded in autumn 2025 and is due for release in 2026.
Line-up : Myrsini Bekakou – Violin Alma Gröning – Violin

Davis West – Viola
Esther Thoben - Cello
“The Alou String Quartet took the audience on a musical journey that had its origins somewhere between jazz, classical music and free improvisation, whilst at the same time defying all categorisation.”
